The Samadhi Mandiram of Sri Nampalli Baba garu has been built beside the Sai Baba temple in DeepthiSri Nagar. It is surrounded by the temples of many other deities, as shown here:

ఆవేశమెన్నడూ తగదని సాయి ఎంత చమత్కారంగా బోధించారో! ఆయన ఒక భక్తుని దక్షిణ అడిగారు. అతను తనవద్ద పైకం లేదన్నాడు. అయినా ప్రతి 10, 15 ని||లకు అతనిని తిరిగి తిరిగి అడిగారు. చివరికతడు విసిగిపోయి, "నా వద్ద డబ్బు లేదంటూంటే!" అని గొంతు చించుకున్నాడు. సాయి కొంటెగా నవ్వి, "లేకపోతే లేదని నెమ్మదిగా చెప్పు. అదీగాకుంటే ఊరుకో, అరుస్తావెందుకు?" అన్నారు.

Sai once repeatedly asked a sadhu for dakshina of Rs.5/-. The latter said, in a temper, “You know that I have no money. Why do you ask me still?” Sai smiled sportively and said, “You may have nothing to give, but why lose your composure?” What a practical method of teaching!

అణ్ణా చించణీకర్ అను ఒక బాబా భక్తుడు ఉండేవాడు. అతను సరళుడు, మోటువాడు, ఉన్నది ఉన్నట్లు మాట్లాడేవాడు, ఎప్పటిది అప్పుడే తేల్చువాడు. బయటకు కఠినునివలే కనిపించేవాడుగానీ, నిజానికి అతడు చాలా మంచి హృదయము కలవాడు. అందుచే బాబా అతనిని ఎంతగానో ప్రేమించేవారు. ఒక మద్యాహ్నము అతడు బాబా ఎడమ చేతికి మర్ధనా చేయుచుండెను. బాబాకు కుడివైపున వేణుబాయి కౌజల్గి అను ఒక వృధ్ధురాలైన వితంతువు ఉన్నది. ఆమెను బాబా, 'అమ్మా' అని పిలిచేవారు; ఇతరులు 'మావిశీబాయి' అని పిలిచేవారు. ఆమెదీ స్వచ్చమైన హృదయము. ఆమెకూడా ఆ సమయంలో బాబాను సేవించుచుండెను. ఆమె బాబా నడుమును, మొలను, వీపును తన చేతి వేళ్ళతో నొక్కుచుండెను. ఆమె దీనిని అతి తీవ్రముగా చేయుచుండెను. బాబా వీపు, కడుపు కలిసిపోవునట్లు కనిపించుచుండెను. ఇంకొక ప్రక్క అణ్ణా మర్ధనా చేయుచుండెను. మావిశీబాయి ముఖము క్రిందకు మీదకు అగుచుండెను. ఒకసారి ఆమె ముఖము ఆణ్ణా ముఖమునకు చాలా దగ్గరగా వచ్చెను. ఆమె హాస్యముగా మాట్లాడు స్వభావము కలిగియుండుటచే, అణ్ణాతో, "ఒహో, అణ్ణా చాలా చెడ్డవాడు, నన్ను ముద్దు పెట్టుకోవడనికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నాడు. ఇంత ముసలివాడివి అయినా, జుట్టంతా నెరిసి పోయినా, నన్ను ముద్దు పెట్టుకోడానికి నీకు సిగ్గు లేదా?" అని అడిగెను. అణ్ణాకు కోపము వచ్చి, తన చొక్కా చేతులు పైకి మడుచుకుంటో, ఇట్లనెను: "నేను ముసలివాడను దుర్మార్గుడను అనుచున్నావు. నేను వెఱ్ఱివాడినా? నువ్వే అనవసరంగా కయ్యానికి కాలు దువ్వుచున్నావు."  అక్కడున్న వారందరూ ఈ ఇద్దరి ముసలివాళ్ళ దెబ్బలాటను చూచి నవ్వుకొనుచుండిరి. బాబా ఇద్దరినీ సమానముగా ప్రేమించువారుగనుక, ఇద్దరినీ ఓదార్చవలెనని తలచి, ఈ క్రింది విధముగా నేర్పుతో సమాధాన పరిచిరి. బాబా ప్రేమతో, "ఓ అణ్ణా! ఎందుకు అనవసరముగా గోల చేయుచున్నావు? బిడ్డ తన తల్లిని ముద్దు పెట్టుకున్నచో దానిలో తప్పేమున్నది?" అనెను. బాబా మాటలు విని ఆ ఇద్దరూ సంతుష్టి చెందిరి. అందరూ సరదాగా నవ్విరి. బాబా చమత్కారమునకు అక్కడి వారందరి హృదయములు ఎంతో ఆనందముతో నిండిపోయెను.


Hemadpant describes another witty incident, in which Baba played a peace-maker's part. There was one devotee by name Damodar Ghanashyama Babare alias Anna Chinchanikar. He was simple, rough and straightforward. He cared for nobody, always spoke plainly and carried all dealings in cash. Though he looked outwardly harsh and uncompromising, he was good natured and guileless. So Sai Baba loved him. One day, like others serving Baba in their own way, this Anna was, one noon standing prone and was massaging the left arm of Baba, which rested on the kathada (railing). On the right side, one old widow named Venubai Koujalgi whom Baba called mother and all others Mavsibai, was serving Baba in her own way. This Mavsibai was an elderly woman with pure heart. She clasped the fingers of both her hands round the trunk of Baba and was at this time kneading Baba's abdomen. She did this so forcibly that Baba's back and abdomen became flat (one) and Baba moved from side to side. Anna on the other side was steady, but Mavsibai's face moved up and down with her strokes. Once it so happened that her face came very close to Anna's. Being of a witty disposition she remarked - "Oh, this Anna is a lewd (bad) fellow, he wants to kiss me. Even being so old with grey hair he feels no shame in kissing me." These words enraged Anna and he pulled up his sleeves and said - "You say that I am an old bad fellow, am I quite a fool? It is you that have picked up a quarrel and are quarreling with me". All the persons, present there were enjoying this encounter between them. Baba Who loved both of them equally and wanted to pacify them, managed the affair very skillfully. Lovingly He said - "Oh Anna, why are you unnecessarily raising this hue and cry? I do not understand what harm or impropriety is there, when the mother is kissed?" Hearing these words of Baba, both of them were satisfied and all the persons laughed merrily and enjoyed Baba's wit to their heart's content.

శిరిడీలో ప్రతీ ఆదివారమూ సంత జరిగేది. చుట్టుప్రక్కల పల్లెల నుండి ప్రజలు వచ్చి వీధులలో దుకాణములు వేసుకుని సరుకులు అమ్ముతూ ఉండేవారు. ప్రతిరోజు మద్యాహ్నము 12 గంటలకు మసీదు భక్తులతో నిండిపోయేది. ముఖ్యముగా ఆదివారమునాడు క్రిక్కిరిసి ఉండేది. ఒక ఆదివారమునాడు హేమాద్‌పంతు సాయిబాబా ముందు కూర్చుని బాబా పాదములొత్తుచూ మనస్సునందు జపము చేసుకొనుచుండెను. బాబాకు ఎడమవైపున శ్యామా, కుడివైపున వామనరావు ఉండిరి. శ్రీమాన్ బూటీ, కాకా సాహెబుదీక్షిత్ మొదలగువారుకూడా నుండిరి. శ్యామా నవ్వుచూ అన్నాసాహెబ్‌తో (హేమాద్‌పంతుతో), "నీ కోటుకు శనగగింజలు అంటినట్లున్నవి చూడుము" అనెను. అట్లనుచు హేమాద్‌పంతు చొక్కా చేతులను తట్టగా, శనగ గింజలు నేలరాలెను. హేమాద్‌పంతు తన చొక్కా ఎడమచేతి ముందుభాగమును చాచెను. అందరికీ ఆశ్చర్యము కలుగునట్లు కొన్ని శనగ గింజలు క్రిందికి దొర్లుట ప్రారంభించెను. అక్కడున్నవారు వానిని ఏరుకొనిరి.

ఈ సంఘటన హాస్యమునకు తావిచ్చెను. అక్కడున్న వారందరు ఆశ్చర్యపడిరి. ఎవరికి తోచినట్లు వారు శనగలు చొక్కాచేతిలో నెట్లు ప్రవేశించి యుండునో ఊహింపనారంభించిరి. శనగలు చొక్కాలో నెట్లు దూరి యచట నిలిచినవో హేమాద్‌పంతు కూడా గ్రహించలేకుండెను. ఎవ్వరికి సరియైన సమాధానము తోచక జవాబు నివ్వనపుడు అందరునూ ఈ అద్భుతమునకు ఆశ్చర్యపడుచుండగా, బాబా, "వీనికి (అన్నాసాహెబుకు) తానొక్కడే తిను దుర్గుణ మొకటి గలదు. ఈనాడు సంతరోజు; శనగలు తినుచూ ఇక్కడకు వచ్చినాడు. వాని స్వభావము నాకు తెలియును. ఈ శనగలే దానికి నిదర్శనము. ఈ విషయములో ఏమి ఆశ్చర్యమున్నది?" అనిరి.

హేమాద్‌పంతు - "బాబా, నేనెప్పుడూ ఒంటరిగా తిని యెరుగను. అయితే, ఈ దుర్గుణమును నాపై ఏల మోపెదవు? ఈనాటికి ఎన్నడునూ శిరిడీలోని సంత నేను చూచి యుండలేదు. ఈరోజు కూడా సంతకు పోలేదు. అట్లయినచో నేను శనగలను ఎలా కొనగలను? నేను కొననప్పుడు నేనెలా తినగలను? నా దగ్గర ఉన్నవారికి పెట్టకుండా నేను ఎప్పుడూ ఏమియూ తిని యెరుగను."

బాబా - "అవును అది నిజమే. దగ్గరున్న వారికి ఇచ్చెదవు. ఎవరునూ దగ్గర లేనపుడు నీవుగానీ, నేనుగానీ ఏమి చేయగలము? కానీ, నీవు తినుటకు ముందు నన్ను స్మరింతువా? నేనెల్లప్పుడు నీ చెంత లేనా? నీవేదైనా తినుటకు ముందు నాకు అర్పించుచున్నావా?"


ఈ లీలనుండి నేర్చుకోవలిసిన బోధ (శ్రీ హేమాద్‌పంతుగారు వివరించినది):
మనము గురువుని స్మరించనిదే ఏ వస్తువును మన మనస్సు మరియు మన ఇంద్రియములతో అనుభవించరాదు. మనస్సునకు ఈ విధముగా శిక్షణను ఇచ్చినచో మనము ఎల్లప్పుడునూ బాబాను జ్ఞప్తియందు ఉంచుకొనగలము. బాబా ధ్యానము ఎన్నో రెట్లు వృధ్ధి పొందును. బాబా సగుణ స్వరూపము మన కండ్ల ఎదుట నిలుచును. మన మనస్సునందు బాబాను ఎప్పుడైతే నిలుపగలమో, అప్పుడు ప్రపంచ సుఖములందుగల అభిలాష క్రమముగా నశించి, మన మనస్సులు శాంతిని, ఆనందమును పొందును.


In Shirdi, bazar was held every Sunday, and people from the neighbouring villages came there, erected booths and stalls on the street, and sold their wares and commodities. Every noon, the Masjid was crowded more or less; but on Sunday, it was crowded to suffocation. On one such Sunday, Hemadpant sat in front of Baba, massaging His Legs and muttering God's name. Shama was on Baba's left, Vamanrao to His right - Shriman Booty and Kakasaheb Dixit and others were also present there. Then Shama laughed and said to Annasaheb - "See that some grains seem to have stuck to the sleeve of your coat". So saying he touched the sleeve and found that there were some grains. Hemadpant straightened his left fore-arm to see what the matter was, when to the the surprise of all, some grains of gram come rolling down and were picked up by the people who were sitting there.

This incident furnished a subject-matter for joke. Everybody present began to wonder and said something or other as to how the grains found their way into the sleeve of the coat and lodged there so long. Hemadpant also could not guess how they found an entrance and stayed there. When nobody could give any satisfactory explanation in this matter, and everybody was wondering about this mystery, Baba said as follows :-


Baba - "This fellow (Annasaheb) has got the bad habit of eating alone. Today is a bazar-day and he was here chewing grams. I know his habit and these grams are a proof of it. What wonder is there is this matter?"

Hemadpant - "Baba, I never know of eating things alone; then why do you thrust this bad habit on me? I have never yet seen Shirdi bazar. I never went to the bazar today, then how could I buy grams, and how could I eat them if I had not bought them? I never eat anything unless I share it with others present near me".

Baba - "It is true that you give to the persons present; but if none be near-by, what could you or I do But do you remember Me before eating? Am I not always with you? Then do you offer Me anything before you eat?"


Teaching from the Leela (explained by Sri Hemadpant):
We should not enjoy any object with our mind and senses without first remembering our Guru. When the mind is trained in this way, we will be always reminded of Baba, and our meditation on Baba will grow apace. The Saguna-form of Baba will ever be before our eyes. When Baba's Form is thus fixed before our mind, the attachment to worldly pleasures will gradually disappear and our mind shall attain peace and happiness.
